In 1963, the Shinmichi Apartment was created as an avant-garde mountainside apartment block on the slopes of Mount Senkoji in Hiroshima Prefecture. In this region, the remembrance of history and culture remains embedded and strong. This apartment, which has genially looked upon people’s activities for years, was subsequently reborn as LOG (Lantern Onomichi Garden). It now exists as a beacon in the mountainous area of Onomichi.
LOG is a place where both the country folk and city folk of this region cross paths. You can spend time in your own favorite way from morning till sunset at LOG, which lies on the road leading up to Senkoji Temple, whether it be a stopover to enjoy the views looking down on Onomichi City or to enjoy a garden or café at your leisure, or whatever you prefer.

Live in harmony with the seasons. Enjoy the bounties of this land without wasting anything without reservation. Try your hand at whatever you are able to do. The LOG project is a place where you can explore the richness of that lifestyle.
We reconfirm the validation of “Praxis”. Through this self-verification we bring energy to manufacturing. This approach is the most important element of the project.
The Lantern Onomichi Garden emits a soft light like that from a lantern in the evening which gently illuminates the city. This place is an oasis for the city, a place of gathering.
Collaboration with STUDIO MUMBAI
STUDIO MUMBAI is based in Mumbai, a city on the west coast of India. The LOG project is led by Mr. Bijoy Jain of STUDIO MUMBAI, and this is his first time to work on a construction project outside of India.
One of the characteristics of Bijoy Jain, the founder of STUDIO MUMBAI, is to incorporate the “strength of the hand” into the design. The architectural spaces he creates consider people, creatures, and the environment, and one can sense that he somehow has a connection with the spirit of the Japanese people.
He continues to say that even with the LOG project, the revalidation of the application of human power draws forth a great energy that cannot be seen with the eye. This philosophy goes beyond the realm of architecture, and it gave us important hints not only for modern ways of living and workmanship but also for our efforts towards local areas, which is the origin of Discover Link Setouchi.
Through our collaboration with STUDIO MUMBAI, we explore universal values which stretch across various borders such as those of countries, cultures, and languages. We wish to express our hope that the things which connect this city to the future will come through LOG.
